Agua de Valencia

Beverages Spanish

Recipe: Agua de Valencia

Anca S. sent me this recipe with the following description: "In Spain, this cocktail is drunk during summer because while it gets you tipsy, it refreshes you... Or vice versa." Tempting, isn't it?

Ingredients

700 ml semi-dry sparkling wine (champagne)
250 ml orange juice (from 4 oranges)
50 ml gin
50 ml orange liqueur (Cointreau)
50 ml vodka (I don't add it)
sugar to taste (optional; I don't add it)

How to prepare agua de valencia

  1. Squeeze the oranges into a glass pitcher. Pour the sparkling wine over the juice.
  2. Add the gin, orange liqueur and vodka (for those who want a stronger cocktail). If desired, add a little sugar.
  3. Put the pitcher in the refrigerator until the mixture is chilled.
  4. Serve either with ice cubes or in frosted glasses (wet the glasses and put them in the freezer until a thin layer of ice forms on them).
