Sangria

Beverages Spanish

Recipe: Sangria

Sangria: a drink to keep you cool all week long. If it works for the Spaniards...

Ingredients

1 liter red wine (I used semi-dry)
3 tablespoons rum (or a few tablespoons of brandy)
3 tablespoons orange liqueur (Cointreau)
3 oranges
1 lemon
1 lime
2-4 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
1 cinnamon stick
other fruits (I used apricots, peaches, but you can use strawberries, raspberries, apples, grapes, pineapple, etc.)

Servings: 4

How to prepare sangria

  1. If the citrus fruits are not organic, put them in a pot of hot water for 10 minutes. Then scrub them with something rough under warm running water.
  2. Mix the wine with sugar, rum (or brandy), orange liqueur and the juice of 2 oranges. Add the rest of the fruits cut into slices and the cinnamon stick.
  3. Let the sangria chill for at least 4 hours in the refrigerator and serve cold. Consume the sangria by the next day, otherwise it becomes bitter from the citrus peels.
