Recipe: Grilled Pork Strips

For me, this is the ideal type of weekday meal: something marinated in the fridge that I can take when I'm hungry and in a few minutes have warm, fresh food on the table. The first night I served it with plain boiled rice and the second night with fried rice made from the leftover rice from the previous evening.

Ingredients

1 pork tenderloin
6 garlic cloves
100ml soy sauce
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon five spice powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1 pinch pepper

Servings: 4

How to prepare grilled pork strips

  1. Cut the pork tenderloin into thin strips, perpendicular to the grain.
  2. Add the crushed garlic and pepper.
  3. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a cup and pour over the meat. Mix well.
  4. Add 2 more cups (cappuccino-sized) of water. Mix again. Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  5. Heat a grill pan brushed with a drop of oil. Fry the meat strips in batches so they're not crowded in the pan. Fry briefly, about 1 minute per side, over high heat, so they stay juicy. After each batch, empty the pan contents including the juice released by the meat. Let the pan heat up again, then add the next batch of meat.
    * if you don't have a grill pan, use a wok or a non-stick pan.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds. Serve with boiled rice or fried rice.
