Eggnog
Christmas Recipes Beverages Eggs
As you can see, I was responsible for the Christmas bar this year. I hope you liked it and that you'll stay with us next year too.
Eggnog is another traditional drink for Christmas Eve. It's prepared less often nowadays, as we've somewhat forgotten about this drink with so many fine beverages that we can quickly buy from stores. But I guarantee you can't buy anything like this anywhere. It's a foam-liqueur that's very good, even I who don't drink hard liquor like cognac was amazed that I could drink it without problems - it's not strong. I shouldn't forget to tell you that I got this recipe from NY Times, it's an old recipe from 1958.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy the foods that I've shared with great pleasure with you. Today I'm leaving for a short vacation, we'll talk again in 5-6 days, although if I have internet access I'll check in here. 😊
Ingredients
60 ml cognac
60 ml bourbon
300 ml heavy cream
4 eggs
70 g sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
1 pinch of salt
1/2 cup milk (optional, I didn't add it)
How to prepare eggnog
- Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Beat the yolks with the sugar until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture becomes a light yellow cream.
- Slowly pour the alcohol (cognac and bourbon) over the cream and refrigerate the mixture for 2-3 hours.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (or to taste) to the egg yolk mixture.
- Let the egg whites come to room temperature. Beat them into stiff peaks with a pinch of salt. Add them to the yolk mixture in 3-4 batches, mixing gently so the foam doesn't deflate too much.
- Whip the cream well and add it to the mixture, mixing gently. Make sure to mix well all the way to the bottom of the bowl because that's where the alcohol settles and needs to be incorporated.
- Refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Put the eggnog in a bowl. Sprinkle nutmeg mixed with a little cinnamon on top. Serve in glasses with a spoon because it's more of a foam-liqueur. It's delicious like this.
* however, if you want it to have a less foamy consistency, add half a cup of milk to the eggnog and then you can drink it from glasses.
