Recipe: Horezu Fermented Sheep Cheese

Look, another favorite product in the dairy category! There's nothing premeditated about it, I just love them madly. Dairy products and cheeses take up a large part of my weekly shopping basket. I don't have too many shoes like most women... no, no. I always have too many cheeses. Give me a cheese and a wine and I'm happy. I could live like that on a deserted island (barefoot, but the climate needs to be warm!).

I have a rule not to keep any snacks, carbonated drinks, chocolate and similar things in the house - I'll tell you why another time - but I panic when I run out of cheese.

Horezu cheese is almost always in my shopping basket. You probably already know this because I've recommended it countless times in my recipes (see here all recipes with Horezu cheese; I use it on pizza, in crepes, scones, lasagna, grilled vegetables, risotto). It's a hard, aged cheese, a kind of Romanian parmesan. I use it in all recipes where before (before Horezu!) I would have used parmesan or pecorino. Because it's good and because it's Romanian. I also include it on my cheese board when I have guests, alongside a red wine.

Horezu cheese is accessible, found in all supermarkets. The price is a bit higher (see the photo below with ingredients and price), but I think it's commensurate with its quality. It's produced by Five Continents. I have another favorite product from them, but we'll talk about that another time... next time... hmm, let's see how much I can talk about cheeses 😉
