Recipe: Apple Chips

In Hungary I found apple chips for sale. I think they were fried in oil like potato chips, but they were still very good. I chose to make them in the oven, because I wanted them to be a healthy snack without calories.

Ingredients

1 apple (I used Granny Smith green apple)
1 tablespoon vanilla powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

How to prepare apple chips

  1. Remove the apple core with a core remover. Slice the apple into very thin rounds, like chips.
    * use a mandoline or grater with a slicing blade to get equally thin slices, this way they will bake at the same rate
  2. Arrange the slices side by side on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, then dust them with sugar mixed with cinnamon using a fine sieve.
  3. Bake on the highest rack at 200°C (400°F) for 10 minutes. Flip the slices, reduce temperature to 180°C (350°F) and bake for another 10 minutes, until the chips become light brown on the edges. If the slices don't brown slightly they won't be crispy.
    * check the slices in the last minutes, some slices will bake faster, for example those on the edges, so you need to remove them one by one.
