Today's recipe is a simple appetizer to make but so elegant looking! It can be served at a fancy dinner or at a buffet.
Ingredients
9 medium tomatoes
cheese (mozzarella or a firm cheese)
1 thin slice of ham
1 small onion
salt, pepper
chili (or paprika)
a little poppy seeds
9 teaspoons olive oil
Servings: 3 - 4
How to prepare warm stuffed tomatoes with cheese
- Drain the mozzarella well.
- If the tomatoes have their stems attached, even better - the appetizer will look more appealing. Cut a small lid at the top of the tomatoes and also slice a bit off the bottom so the tomato stands upright. With a melon baller (or a teaspoon), scoop out the inside, being careful not to break the tomato.
- Fill the tomato with cheese until full. If using mozzarella, cut round slices matching the inside diameter of the tomato; if using another cheese, you can grate it.
- Tear a piece of ham (enough to cover the tomato) and place over the cheese.
- Cut a very thin slice of onion and place over the ham.
- Sprinkle a little salt, pepper, and chili. Also sprinkle some poppy seeds for appearance.
- Drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil over each assembled tomato. Place the tomato lids on top.
* at this point you can place the tomatoes in the refrigerator and bake them only when ready to serve, as they are better warm. - Place the tomatoes in a baking pan and bake at 200C for 10 minutes, until the cheese gratins slightly.
- Serve immediately.
