Recipe: Baked Cabbage with Ground Meat

When you are in the mood for a good and affordable recipe that can feed a large and hungry family, try this baked cabbage with ground meat recipe.

Ingredients

800g cabbage
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
450g ground pork
10 sprigs parsley
2 eggs
2 tablespoons sour cream (fermented)
salt, pepper
2-3 tablespoons oil
breadcrumbs for the pan

How to prepare baked cabbage with ground meat

  1. Cut the cabbage into thin strips with a knife or using a grater.
  2. Heat the oil in a wide pan and add the cabbage, stirring frequently. Add the cabbage in 3-4 batches, adding each batch after the previous one has wilted. With each batch, sprinkle salt, black pepper, and thyme. After you have added all the cabbage, add 100 ml water and braise the cabbage for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. At the end, taste the cabbage for salt and pepper and add more if necessary.
  3. Mix the ground meat with 1 egg, chopped parsley, 1 level teaspoon of salt, and black pepper.
  4. Grease a heat-resistant baking dish (15 x 23 cm) with butter or oil. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  5. Place slightly more than half of the sauteed cabbage in the dish. Then spread all the meat on top of the cabbage. Place the remaining cabbage on top.
  6. Beat the sour cream with the remaining egg. Pour over the cabbage.
  7. Bake at 200C for 40 minutes, until golden on top.
  8. It is good warm or reheated.
