Recipe: Dried Fig Bars with Sesame

Helpful during fasting: fig and sesame bars, rich in fiber and calcium.

Ingredients

250g dried figs
50g walnuts (or cashews or almonds)
3 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon rum (or sweet oloroso sherry)
1 teaspoon cocoa powder (or carob powder for small children)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 clove, crushed
1/2 cardamom pod, crushed

How to prepare dried fig bars with sesame

  1. Lightly toast the walnuts and sesame seeds in a dry pan. Grind the walnuts and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds in a coffee grinder until they become powder.
  2. Blend the figs cut into pieces in a food processor until they become a paste.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients, except for 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds. Knead well until homogeneous.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds in a thin layer on the bottom of small ceramic dishes. Place the fig mixture on top, pressing well with the back of a spoon. Refrigerate for at least a few hours, but ideally overnight.
  5. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the dishes and flip onto a plate.
