Recipe: Feta Wrap

This past week I became addicted to this sandwich. I walked into a fancy bar in Cluj city center - I call them aquariums - just to have a good cappuccino and I saw feta sandwich on the menu. Actually, I only read "feta" and instantly craved it. I ordered it without thinking and without looking at the price... how much can a sandwich cost anyway? I'll tell you how much - 12 lei!!!! Although I was a bit outraged inside, the next day, during lunch break, I went straight to the same bar and got another sandwich. This time with a precise purpose, so I started to dissect it to see exactly what it contains, and last night this is what came out - exactly the much-desired sandwich. 😉 And muuuch cheaper. And without having to put up with the "attitudes" of the staff at that bar. Until now I had thought that the reputation of a "fancy bar" came from the people who frequent those places, but it seems it has more to do with the hired staff. 😋

As a general rule, which can be applied to any dish prepared from few ingredients, all products must be of the highest quality. With so few ingredients, you'll taste the flavor of each one. So make sure the feta is good quality, the olives are the kind you like best, and the same goes for the olive oil. These are what matter most for the final taste of the sandwich. Plus, the flatbread should be as fresh as possible, made that day or the day before, so check the production date label. This way you'll get the easiest, simplest and best sandwich, equally suitable for a quick lunch or a light dinner.

Ingredients

1 small flatbread
50g feta cheese
2 lettuce leaves
6-7 black olives
2-3 onion rings (optional)
2-3 tomato slices (optional)
dried oregano
3 teaspoons olive oil

Servings: 1

How to prepare feta wrap

  1. So that the sandwich doesn't fall apart at the end, take less than 1/3 of the feta and spread it on the flatbread.
  2. Place the lettuce leaves on one end of the flatbread - if they're too big, tear them and layer them. Drizzle about 1 teaspoon of oil over the lettuce.
  3. Place the rest of the feta cut into pieces and the chopped olives on top. If desired, add tomato and/or onion rings (or green onion if you have it). Sprinkle generously with oregano and drizzle the remaining olive oil on top.
  4. Roll tightly starting from the end where you put the filling.
  5. Cut the resulting roll in half, slightly on the diagonal.
