Recipe: Guacamole

A traditional Mexican recipe with avocado and vegetables - a dip that goes perfectly with corn chips (tortilla chips).

It's very important to know how to choose avocados. The test is simple: take the avocado between your fingers and squeeze gently. If the fruit only shows small indentations from your fingers and you feel the flesh giving way slightly, they're ready to eat; if you feel your fingers sinking easily into the flesh and the fruit has black spots, then it's overripe and I don't recommend buying it; if the fruit is firm, you can buy it but won't eat it immediately - place it in a paper bag with a banana and leave it at room temperature for 2 days to ripen.

Ingredients

2 avocados
1 heaping tablespoon of finely chopped onion
1 large tomato
1 hot pepper (or chili powder)
a few sprigs of parsley and cilantro
lemon or lime juice
salt

How to prepare guacamole

  1. Peel the avocados, remove the pit and mash the flesh with a fork. Drizzle the flesh with lemon/lime juice to prevent oxidation.
  2. Add the chopped onion, chopped hot pepper, tomato cut into small cubes and finely chopped herbs.
  3. Add salt to taste.
