Furikake (Japanese Rice Seasoning)
Asian Simple Recipes Condiments
Japanese seasoning for rice.
For lunch: cooked rice mixed with furikake to taste, topped with a poached egg sprinkled with a little chili. For dinner: you can sprinkle it on baked salmon or on baked potatoes.
Ingredients
35g white sesame seeds
35g black sesame seeds
2 nori sheets
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
How to prepare furikake (japanese rice seasoning)
- Toast the sesame seeds on low heat, in a dry pan without any fat until lightly browned. Remove from pan.
- Add the nori sheets torn into pieces to the hot pan and stir for 1 minute to revive the aroma.
- Put the nori in a food processor (or coffee grinder) and grind finely. Add the sesame seeds, salt, and sugar and pulse 5-6 times, just enough to slightly crush the sesame seeds.
- Store in a closed jar.
