Recipe: Hungarian Cheese Spread (Liptauer)

This is my first appetizer suggestion for Easter. Served with colorful vegetable sticks, the platter will have a springtime feel and will brighten up the table... and of course everyone's stomach.

Ingredients

200g cottage cheese
200g feta cheese (or similar brined cheese)
1/2 onion
1 teaspoon paprika
2-3 pinches ground caraway
1 tablespoon sour cream (optional)
pepper

How to prepare hungarian cheese spread (liptauer)

  1. Mix the cottage cheese with the feta cheese grated on a fine grater. If you want the mixture creamier (this also depends on how dry the cottage cheese is), add 1 generous tablespoon of sour cream.
  2. Add the onion grated on a coarse grater and the rest of the seasonings and mix well until you get a homogeneous pink paste.
  3. Serve with vegetables cut into sticks, arranged around the bowl with the spread (cucumbers, celery stalks, endives, carrots, radish rounds, green onion, cherry tomatoes, etc.). Don't forget to put some crackers on the side, for those who are carb-dependent 😉
